I have a peanut allergy, should I avoid tree nuts too?

This is a very common question and one that causes a lot of confusion.

If you have a peanut allergy but do not have a tree nut allergy, you might assume that it is okay to eat tree nuts. Unfortunately tree nuts are often manufactured/processed in peanut facilities. Depending upon the facility and manufacturer, there could be traces of peanuts on the tree nuts/tree nut products you wish to consume.

If you would like to eat tree nuts and are not allergic to them, we suggest getting nuts that you must shell yourself and contacting the facility/manufacturer to find out if peanuts are processed in the same facility as the tree nuts you are interested in.
