The morning started out gray, however the weather quickly cleared making Sunday, September 26th a near perfect day for a 2.5 mile walk in Hopkinton State Park, Massachusetts.
Hundreds of food allergy families arrived in home made team shirts, with wagons and strollers in tow, to walk the 2010 Boston Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Walk Towards a Food Allergy Cure.
An obstacle course moonwalk kept little walkers busy while parents registered and prepared. Favorite kids musician Kyle Dine flew in from Canada to keep everyone upbeat and on their toes performing songs “Food Allergies Rock” and “Smellephant the Allergic Elephant” among others.
FAAN CEO Julia Bradsher kicked off the walk with a short speech and families ended the day with bags of food allergy friendly samples from HomeFree, Divvies, Enjoy Life, Navan Foods and more. Water was generously donated by Northeast Allergy, Asthma and Immunology.
According to the FAAN website, the Boston walk has raised $66,000. to date, with Teams Derby and Pioneer Valley Food Allergy Support raising over $2,000. each. Several other walks are scheduled in the United States through December.
