Paul Antico is the father of 2 food allergic boys and creator of AllergyEats, “Your Online Guide to Allergy Friendly Restaurants”.
The goal of AllergyEats is to serve as a peer reviewed restaurant guide. Readers can comment on and rate restaurants they’ve been to–as to whether they had a good or bad experience in dealing with their food allergies.
The guide is not to replace common sense dining tactics like mentioning your allergies to the waiter or discussing cross contamination. It is however useful to see the experiences others have had when dealing with their food allergies at particular restaurants. It will also prove to be a useful website for those traveling to unfamiliar cities.
The website lists over 600,000 restaurants in the United States and is searchable by geographic location, provides maps and driving directions, lists phone numbers and includes menus, industry certifications and other information of interest to food allergy sufferers when available.
AllergyEats is a free site to use and is currently in its soft launch beta phase. This means there may be a few glitches to work out and not as many peer reviews as you might want to see. A full launch is to come in a few weeks.
