Since 1998, one week in the month of May is celebrated Nationally to shine a spotlight on the seriousness of food allergies. The goal is to increase awareness, to encourage respect, promote safety, and improve the quality of life for the 15 million Americans with food allergies. This year is the 20th year that FARE is commemorating Food Allergy Awareness Week. Here are 10 different ways you can participate in Food Allergy Awareness Week:
#1 – Fundraiser
Plan a fundraiser or make a donation in support of food allergy education and awareness, or food allergy research.
#2 – Posters
Put up a Food Allergy Awareness poster in your class or workplace
#3 – Demonstrations
Give a small presentation to your classmates or colleagues about the importance of epinephrine with a short demonstration on how to use an auto-injector.
#4 – Social medias
Tell your social network about Food Allergy Awareness week by sharing a post on any of your social media pages. Share statistics, facts about top allergens, signs of anaphylaxis…
#5 – Acknowledgments
Acknowledge the restaurant staff that does a great job at accommodating your needs when you dine out!
#6 – Turn It Teal lightings

View one of the Turn It Teal lightings in your area, take a photo and share on your social media pages.
#7 – Experience it yourself
Adopt a food allergy, and encourage others around you to do the same. The only way to truly empathize with someone living with food allergies is to experience it yourself.
#8 – Cook!
Cook a meal that is completely free from the top 8 allergens.
#9 – Viewing party
Host a viewing party for the medical documentary, “An Emerging Epidemic: Food Allergies in America” produced by FARE and the Discovery Channel.
#10 – Guest post
Submit a guest post to Best Allergy Sites about why Food Allergy Awareness is important to you.
